WEGEN DER ROSE BEGIEST MAN DIE DORNEN and ORANGEN WACHSEN OHNE DORNEN are two side specific textile collages made for a group exhibition in the Lapidarium of the Schlossgarten Schwetzingen. The two works combine the hunting motif of Peter Anton von Verschaffelt (1766-69) with a quote attached to a facade in the Schlossgarten.

The scene depicted here is an ambivalent fusion: Who is attacking, and who is defending against what? Do the thorns wrap around like a gentle embrace or a tightening noose? The soft fur and the diffuse spots create depth, texture, and tactility. The work, placed at the prominent end of the Lapidarium, carries a sacred, historical resonance through its analogy to the Trinity. At the same time, the two supporting stands bring the piece into the contemporary moment, evoking the feel of quickly assembled and disassembled photographic backdrops. The combination of historical reference and modern presentation invites a layered reflection on both the material and symbolic elements of the work.
