This large-scale textile piece depicts H.I.M., the queer-coded villain from The Powerpuff Girls. The character’s image was digitally pixelated and then meticulously translated into fabric: each pixel cut out and sewn onto a textile ground. Through this process, a figure once animated for the screen becomes a tactile, monumental object.

By shifting from digital to hand-crafted materiality, the work both honors and reclaims a camp icon, highlighting how queerness has long been coded, caricatured, and villainized in popular culture. The pixel grid underscores the constructed nature of these representations, while the softness of fabric contrasts with the character’s infernal persona, opening space for both critique and celebration.
